Origins
An unfortunate childhood event separated young Alexander Summers and his older brother, Scott Summers (AKA Cyclops), from their parents — The intergalactic Shi’ar Empire set their wooden airplane ablaze, leaving Scott and Alex to escape with the only available parachute.
Following the rough landing, both Alex and Scott were left hospitalized, amnesic, and lost many memories of their parents who had been abducted by the Shi’ar Empire. Eventually the two brothers were sent to separate homes. Initially, Alex was sent to an orphanage secretly run by geneticist Nathaniel Essex, AKA Mister Sinister. Alex was soon after adopted by the Blanding family, whose son Todd died in a car accident, but treated Alex as if he were Todd.
During Alex Summer’s school years, Sinister monitored Alex while he lived with his foster family, and watched as his latent mutant powers began to emerge. Alex first witnessed his powers via a stress-induced plasma blast to the school bully who threatened his adoptive family’s home. Sinister intervened by placing a genetic lock upon Alex to curtail his powers’ development, and imposes psi-blocks that remove Alex’s memories of these events… As a result, Alex did not become aware of his mutant abilities until after graduating from college.
Powers & Abilities
Havok continuously absorbs and metabolizes ambient cosmic energy (such as stellar energy, x-rays and gamma radiation), which he can then release as waves of plasma energy. These intense waves emanate from his body in all directions unless he purposely channels them in a single direction, usually along the length of his arms.
Havok’s superheated plasma blasts can penetrate, shatter, melt or even vaporize most targets, though with intense concentration he can sometimes decrease their intensity for less destructive effects, such as stunning live targets. Havok is immune to the intense heat he creates, as well as the energy generated by his brother Cyclops, but not to the energy generated by his other brother Gabriel Summers, AKA Vulcan.
